Generally speaking, I’m wary of fortune cookies—those bulbous, crescent-shaped tan sugar cookies that often accompany the bill in Chinese restaurants and whose insides purportedly contain glad tidings. My distaste is because often the promised “fortunes” turn out to be non-fortunes, and could at best be called “maxims,” e.g.: Good friends are nice; Life is easier when you have money; Exercise and proper nutrition form the back-bone of a healthy life; Regular calcium intake will strengthen your bones and help prevent osteo-arthritis; etc.  However, yesterday I found this little note tucked into the bottom corner of a takeout bag (all of which was unexpected as I had purchased Thai-style noodles from a Vietnamese place: oh you zany Asians…), and for once I have to hope that the cookie is right.
