Here are some photos taken at one of the most famous resting places in the world. Located in the 20th Arrondissement in Paris, the cemetery is home—such as it is—to some of France’s finest: Marcel Proust, Frederic Chopin, Honore de Balzac, Heloise and Abelard, Amedeo Modigliani, amongst others, to say nothing of one of its more famous imports: Jim Morrison, the former lead singer of the Doors. Sadly, there’s a fair amount of graffiti from Doors fans who insist upon scribbling upon others’ graves. Statements such as, “This way to Jim” and other wonderfully respectful inscriptions are found throughout the cemetery, and doubtless improve Franco-American relations immeasurably more than any diplomatic tact.
The day was rather crummy: rainy, gray, the first touches of fall in the air, but in reality the weather only enhanced the whole experience.
